Whatever you do…don’t hit a terrorist!

On the news this morning they were talking about the Navy Seals who are going to go through Court Martial procedings for hitting a terrorist and giving him a bloody lip on the battlefield.

Note to all our military personnel…Feel free to beat, rape and abuse a fellow soldier, but whatever you do, don’t hit a terrorist!

Does anybody else hear that message?  I hear it loud and clear because the man who beat me after a Humvee accident has been promoted twice since it happened.  The man who molested me daily in his office without remorse is happily retired, drawing the military pension that was denied me.

Last night my husband was turning the channels and found the movie, Courage Under Fire with Meg Ryan.  It is the story of a female chooper pilot who is murdered by a male NCO in Desert Storm.  It is not based on a true story!  I can certify that because…she gets a Medal of Honor and he kills himself out of remorse.  Well, let’s just be honest.  There are no medals for those of us who are “gotten rid of” and the person who does it gets promoted.  THAT story line could have been “based on a true story.”

I’ve heard that it’s common for women in the military who are sexually assaulted to go through this kind of treatment. It’s like the military just wants to sweep things under the rug and even rallies around the perpetrator, while the victim is treated like trash. Such a tragedy. God be with you.

The military spends more time and energy sweeping this under the rug than doing anything to correct the problem. You are absolutely right. It is not just women who suffer this sort of treatment, but men also. The recent statistics show us that 1 in 4 women will be raped in the military – and that 1 in 100 men. Considering that there are many more men serving in the military than there are women, the one-to-one numbers are nearly equal. That just goes for those who report and does not include the number of men and women who continue on silently.

Thank you so much for your comments! God Bless you!

So sad. The military is supposed to be one of the most honorable organizations in our society. And then they put up with junk like this. Just as, alas, the Church tried to sweep the clergy sex abuse problem under the rug rather than punishing the culprits and seeking justice for the victims.

The bottom line? Don’t be more concerned about maintaining an image than doing what’s right.

    Peace!

One quote that I hold very dear:

Always choose the Hard Right over the Easy Wrong.

How right! Not always easy to do, but better for everyone in the end.
