Eyes Wide Shut

I’m very angry this morning.  Sometimes the news does that to me.  Today I am angry over another young victim that has chosen to take her own life instead of face the pain and shame.

Phoebe Prince was a beautiful young girl who was literally bullied to death by some of her classmates, nine of whom have been charged in her death, including two for statutory rape.  She was only 15 years old in January when she chose death over abuse.

Now there is talk about some of the teachers in her school knowing that she was being tortured.  Yes, I said TORTURED.  Being “bullied” is not part of growing up people!  When are we as a people going to call this exactly what it is.  Our government worries more about a terrorist with a fat lip than they do about someone being driven to their death while others stand by and do nothing!

Of course, this is not the governments fault and I don’t mean to imply that.  It just seems outlandish to me that other people watched this young girl suffer and they did nothing.  What are we, pack animals just waiting to cut the weak from the herd so that we can eat them?

To be unrelentingly attacked and bullied is torture.  To watch others see what is happening and shut their eyes to it, especially adults who are supposed to be trained in education, is just unacceptable.  Who in the hell thought that this was something that was “normal teenage behavior!”  As a parent to teenagers I know that parents can only do so much so please don’t think that I am accusing this little girls parents.  What ever happened to it takes a village to raise a child?  I’m not a big fan of the “village” approach but someone had to have seen this happening!

Unfortunately, that was not to be and now we will add another “silent victim” to this list of our own dead.

Rest well Phoebe.  May you find the peace in death that was so cruelly denied you in life.  You will not be forgotten.

If you are reading this and you are a praying sort of person.  Please pray for her family that they may find grace and mercy even in their grief.

Eyes Wide Open this day and everyday!

Oh my God, not another bullying suicide. Has it been determined yet whether Nancy Grace of CNN was bullying this victim of a suicide like she is alleged to have done to another victim by calling that victim by telephone to her home where Nancy berated that victim to the point of suicide? Might be time to lock her up before any more victims are lost.

Thanks for commenting…I just have to wonder what Nancy Grace has to do with this particular case. I know the story of what happened with Nancy Grace. I am just wondering, when it comes to Phoebe, if you are being honest in this or if you are being cruel?

This is so, so sad. No, I take that back. It’s not sad. It’s infuriating.

This breaks my heart. It really does.

Thank you for replying…it is terribly heartbreaking. Yes, it is infuriating! I just hope that we as human beings can learn that certain types of morality are not based on religious views…they are based on being part of a larger community than ourselves. A “pack” of “dogs” tearing this child apart is inexcusable. The adults around this who “justified” the actions of the “dogs” just makes the behavior seem acceptable.

    Joan, just being honest.

Sounds good – I’m all about honesty, no matter what form it may take.
